エミール・コールからヤン・シュヴァンクマイエルまでさまざまなアーティストがアニメーションの可能性を探ってきました。アニメーションのマジックは動かないモノがイメージの速さで生き物のようになるということです。ソーマトロープ、ゾエトロープ、パラパラ漫画の単純なアニメーションの装置を通して残像のメカニズムが鑑賞でき、それぞれの個別のコマであるイメージがスムーズな動きとして見られます。このメカニズムを利用して、普通のモノを異常なモノに変更させることができ、世界に新しい動きが与えられます。今回のオープンアートでは手書きアニメーションからストップアニメーションまで様々なアニメーションの作り方を試しながら、普通の可能性を超えるまで想像力を活かします。

From Émile Cohl to Jan Svankmajer, the magic of animation is that inanimate objects come alive through the speed of their images. From the bird-in-a-cage, to zoetropes and flick books we can appreciate the mechanism in which our eye is tricked through the persistence of vision to see individual frames as a smooth line of motion. Through this mechanism we can make the ordinary become extraordinary and unleash a new momentum upon the world. We will try a variety of animation technics including hand-drawn animation and stop animation and allow our imaginations to extend a little beyond what is usually possible.
