歴史のビタースウィートな味 食べ物は文化と歴史の表現の一つ。また対立になっている政治力と植民地主義の暴力の舞台になっています。新しいシリーズとして今まで開催してきた「料理で世界をつくる」と「ブックリサーチ」を一緒に同じイベントの中で展開することになりました。本を読むことと料理をつくる・食べることで、食べ物の裏にある、重くて複雑な歴史を知覚したいと思います。第一回目のイベントとしてカリアンモイイ・ダスさんはインドの家庭ベジタリアン料理のレシピを紹介してくれます。みんなでインド料理にはイギリスの植民地主義はどのような影響を与えたか、またどのようにインドがその支配と闘ったか、日本はどのように関わっていたかということを考えてみます。

Food is an expression of culture and history. It is also the site of conflicting politics and the violence of colonialism. In a new series of events at Kosaten we combine our "Cooking Up the World" sessions, which have until now invited foreign residents from around the world to introduce their home flavors, along with "Book Research" which has previously attempted to touch upon the history of colonialism which imperialist nations often attempt to cover up. As a result of this merge we hope that through the process of reading texts and actually making and tasting various recipes, we can directly sense the weight and complexity of history which permeates all we eat.

For our first session in this series Kalyanmoyee Das introduces her recipes of vegetarian home-cooking in India, while we explore the impact of British Colonialism on Indian food, and the struggles against British rule, which through the figure of Subhas Chandra Bose went on to connect with Japan's attempted invasion of the South Asian land.
